Our Coaches

Matt Groves

Owner

Matt Groves founded The Grove Strength and Conditioning in 2014. Since 2018, he's also worked as a Performance Coach for the engineering firm Emanuelson-Podas. Originally from Massachusetts, Matt made his way to Minnesota by way of Las Vegas and Thailand.
Outside the gym, he’s into bread baking, books, coffee, and punk rock. He holds a B.S. from UMass Amherst and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA. Matt lives in Minnesota with his wife Jessica, a nurse, and their two kids-Fiona, a spitfire with a big personality, and Oscar, the newest addition to the crew.

Eric Larson

Coach

Eric earned his degree in Exercise Science from Winona State University. During his time there, he interned with the Strength and Conditioning staff at Saint Mary's University, where he helped coach 15 varsity sports-7 men's and 8 women's teams.
When he wasn’t in class, you could find him hunting or fishing along the Mississippi River. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and holds certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED. Outside the gym, Eric’s usually chasing good food, new fishing spots, and a fresh cup of Kwik Trip coffee.

James Cormack

Powerlifting Coach

As a seasoned gym coach with a passion for fitness, James brings expertise and motivation to every training session. With a background in boxing, he tailors workouts to individual needs, ensuring clients achieve their fitness milestones. Join James on a journey towards a healthier and stronger you.

The Grove features an open-layout training space with turf flooring, natural light from large windows, and dedicated lifting platforms for safe and effective strength training. Our facility also includes thoughtfully designed locker rooms-each with three showers-and red light therapy to support recovery and overall wellness.
